PROMOTIONS

THE ESTATE

Today, despite the transfer of the Tenuta Mocajo to new owners, the legacy of the Boutourlin family continues to be a distinctive element of the place, a testament to a rich history full of charm and transformation.

The coat of arms, visible in the estate’s logo, the decorative details of the main villa, and the stained glass windows of the neo-Gothic chapel, represent a link to the past and to the figure of the Russian Count Dmitrij Petrovič Buturlin, who left an indelible mark on these lands in the 19th century.

The coat of arms is quartered: in the first and fourth quadrants, on a golden background, a black eagle with outstretched wings, crowned with gold and emerging from the partition; in the second, on an ermine field, a closed gold crown, encircled by the field and lined in red; in the third, on a blue background, a right arm wielding a silver scimitar with golden fittings; and in the center, a red shield features a gold eagle with lowered wings.

Dmitrij Petrovič Buturlin, a member of this illustrious family and passionate bibliophile, managed the Montecatini Val di Cecina copper mine between 1873 and 1879. A lover of nature and rural life, he spent long periods at the Mocajo farm.

During his administration, he introduced crucial innovations: he reduced the working hours of miners, installed a telegraph office, promoted the creation of a new road connecting Mocajo to the surrounding area, and encouraged the construction of the church, consecrated on September 14, 1878.

His death at only 51 years old was a great loss for the community, depriving it of a man who had significantly contributed to the modernization of the mine and the region. Today, the Tenuta Mocajo proudly preserves this heraldic symbol, keeping alive the memory of an era when the foresight and commitment of one man made these lands a center of progress and innovation.
